Sub-Saharan Africa Online Pathology Teaching

Together with the British Division of the International Academy of Pathology (BDIAP) ASAP has developed an e-learning training platform, delivering weekly online lectures in anatomical pathology via Zoom. These are free to join and organized by Professor Richard Byers MD PhD, Manchester University Hospital and the University of Manchester and are usually on Wednesdays at 15:00hr Lusaka, Zambia time, on the Zoom ID below.

ASAP in collaboration with the College of Pathologists of East, Central and Southern Africa (COPECSA) and Aga Khan University (AKU) held a successful 2.5 day workshop on cancer staging with over 20 pathologists from across the ECSA region and expert faculty from the United States, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.

The workshop series, held November 16-18, 2018; at AKU in Nairobi, Kenya, featured the following cancers:

Head & Neck
Breast
Endometrial & Ovarian
Gastric & Esophageal.

The sessions consisted of short, 30 minute lectures covering the most important information for solving the cases, 2-hour sessions for completing cases in small groups, and a 1-hour session where challenging, local cases were reviewed by the expert faculty.
